KELOWNA, B.C. — Horizon Air marks 10 years of service to Kelowna tomorrow with a celebration in the ticket counter area for customers flying Horizon.

"We just enjoyed our best year ever in terms of boardings from Kelowna and so it's a great time to celebrate," said Dan Russo, Horizon director of marketing and communications. "We're proud to have been part of the Okanagan Valley community for 10 years and look forward to many more."

Horizon offers four daily flights between Kelowna and Seattle, a hub for both Horizon and sister company Alaska Airlines.

"Horizon Air has been an important partner in providing transborder service to Kelowna and the Okanagan as a whole," said Kelowna International Airport General Manager Sam Samaddar. "The business and tourism industry within the Okanagan has benefited greatly from their service."

Horizon began operating into Kelowna International Airport from Seattle on May 10, 1998, with four daily flights in the 37-seat Bombardier Q200 turboprop and a fifth flight operating in the summer. The Bombardier Q400 was introduced during the 2003 ski season and began operating in Kelowna year-round in 2008 as annual demand increased. The 74/76-seat Q400 is among the most environmentally friendly aircraft today, burning 30 percent less fuel and producing 30 percent less CO2 than a comparable jet.

Horizon's all-Bombardier fleet serves 49 cities throughout Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Baja California Sur (Mexico), and British Columbia and Alberta (Canada). Together, Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines serve 92 cities and are subsidiaries of Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK).
