Initial Training
Thank you for your interest in becoming a CARE Team Member. The job you are considering has enormous responsibilities as well as tremendous rewards. Thank you for considering to participate in this vitally important work. If you are interested in learning more about what is means to be a CARE Team member, we invite you to visit the Testimonials page where you can read what current CARE Team members have to say about the CARE Team. These members share some of their insight and experiences as they relate to being a member of the CARE Team. You can also speak with any CARE Team Member and they will be happy to go over the details of the program. The instructor for CARE Team training classes is Rick Hoaglund. He can also assist you with any information you might need.
Employees interested in being a member of the CARE Team must:
- Obtain the approval of their supervisor or manager.
- Have worked at least six months with either Alaska Airlines or Horizon Air.
- Talk it over with their family.
- Register for and attend one of the scheduled one-day initial training classes.
- To apply, go to the training calendar and fill out the online application.
The initial training will include:
- An overview of the family assistance legislation.
- A summary of Alaska and Horizon emergency procedures and organization.
- An overview of the two types of CARE Team Assignment: Administrative or Family.
- CARE Team procedures and guidelines during a response.
- Information on effective crisis communication and the importance of self-care.
- Survivor and/or Family testimonies.
So you have signed up for initial training. Now what?
First, make sure that you confirm your attendance with your supervisor or manager. We have to have their approval before you can attend.
Second, if you are coming from out of town, confirm that you have a hotel reservation (if necessary).
NOTE: The hotel is the responsibility of your department. The Emergency Preparedness Department does NOT provide for or assist with any of the hotel reservations. If necessary, this bill is to be charged to your department.
Third, wait for your pre-class study packet to arrive via email. Complete the packet and remember to bring it with you to class. It will be emailed to you approximately two weeks before class.
