What is the CARE Team?
CARE Team members are employees from both Alaska and Horizon Air that are called upon to respond after a major accident involving either carrier. There are two roles that a CARE Team member can fill, a family assignment or an administrative assignment. At the end of Initial training, CARE Team members will be asked to select their preference.
Family Assignment: The CARE Team Member that chooses the family assignment will be asked to provide compassionate assistance to survivors and/or their families by providing accurate information and meeting short term, practical needs in a supportive and responsive environment.
Examples of duties that Family Assigned CARE Team Members may be called upon to do include:
- Travel to the accident location to assist a surviving passenger.
- Travel to the accident location to assist the family of a non-surviving passenger.
- Travel to a city other than the accident location to assist family members who do not wish to travel.
- Be available on a temporary basis to meet needs such as: getting information, arranging for transportation and meals, connecting them with family/friends, and providing basic needs items, such as toiletries, medications, clothing, etc.
Administrative Assignment : The CARE Team Member that chooses the administrative assignment will be working behind the scenes providing support to the on-site Leadership Teams and CARE Team members working with families.
Examples of the duties that Administrative Assigned CARE Team Members may be called upon to do include:
-
Initial set-up of local or site responses
-
Making deliveries
-
Message runners
-
Clerical assistance (copying, faxing, collating)
-
Transportation coordination
-
Data entry
-
Receiving inbound/outbound calls
-
Security
Note : CARE Team Members who indicate they are interested in an administrative role will never be assigned to a family member. However, CARE Team Members that indicate a preference for working with a family may be assigned an administrative role. There are a large number of administrative duties and the number of CARE Team members assigned to a family will depend on the scale of the accident and the needs of the family members. There are no small roles during an accident response and everyone's contributions will have an impact on survivors.
