What is a critical incident?

Any event that is so out of the ordinary that it may temporarily overwhelm the normal coping skills of an individual.

The Alaska Airline Employees CIRP program was established in 1993. The program while heavily supported by Alaska Airlines is managed by volunteer employees. The original purpose of the program was to provide immediate support to flight crewmembers that experienced critical incidents while performing their jobs. As the program evolved, its scope changed to include all employees at Alaska Airlines and their families.

What is the difference between CIRP and CARE?

The Compassionate Assistance Relief Effort (CARE) program was established by Alaska Airlines to provide immediate and short term support services to all families impacted by an accident involving one of our aircraft. For an excellent overview of the CARE program please go to the CARE team web site.

The CIRP program is for employees and their families at any time. If you are interested in more information or in filling out an application (pdf 47k) please send an email to CIRPonline.
