Horizon Air Announces Santa Rosa-Las Vegas Service

1/23/2008 9:01 a.m.

SANTA ROSA — Horizon Air today announced it will begin new, daily nonstop service between Santa Rosa and Las Vegas starting April 24.

"Since bringing air service back to Sonoma County, we've been flooded with requests for flights to Las Vegas," said Dan Russo, Horizon's director of marketing and communications. "So we're especially pleased to now be in a position to make it a reality. Las Vegas will be our fourth destination to be served nonstop from Charles M. Schulz - Sonoma County Airport."

Horizon Air began serving Sonoma County on March 20, 2007, with flights to Los Angeles and Seattle. On Oct. 28, the airline added a daily nonstop flight to Portland. These flights, as well as the new Las Vegas flight, are operated with the airline's quiet and comfortable 76-seat Q400 aircraft.

"I am thrilled to see our partnership with Horizon expand to new service from Sonoma County to Las Vegas," said Sonoma County Supervisor Paul Kelley. "Air service continues to be a crucial part of our economic vitality in Sonoma County, for business and tourism."

The new Las Vegas flight will take two hours and five minutes each way and will depart daily from Santa Rosa at 7:35 p.m. The return flight will depart from Las Vegas at 10:15 p.m.

Tickets for the new Santa Rosa-Las Vegas service are available now and currently start as low as $69 one-way for travel Monday through Thursday and on Saturday, and as low as $89 one way for travel on Fridays and Sundays when purchased online at 14 days or more ahead of time. A ticket purchased at a Horizon or Alaska Airlines airport location or through one of their reservation call centers will cost $10 more per person.

Las Vegas packages that conveniently bundle air travel, hotel accommodations and other options (such as rental car and show tickets) are available through Alaska Airlines Vacations by calling 1-800-468-2248 or online at

Horizon's new service does more than put area travelers just two hours away from Las Vegas' nonstop action and excitement. Las Vegas can serve as a new gateway for air travelers making connections to and from Midwest and East Coast destinations.

"Our evening flight to Las Vegas connects with several overnight flights out of Las Vegas, so you can fly from Sonoma County after work and be on the East Coast by morning," said Russo.

This is the second addition of service by Horizon Air this month. Earlier in January, Horizon announced it will add a second flight between Santa Rosa and Seattle from April 6 through Oct. 25. The flight is being added to better accommodate the need for air travel to and from Sonoma County when demand is traditionally the highest.

Horizon serves 48 cities throughout California, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and British Columbia and Alberta. Together, Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines serve 92 cities and are subsidiaries of Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK).
